Technicals

When someone suggests you "look at the technicals" of a stock, what do they mean? The term refers to the process of technical analysis, which some traders use as a method of evaluating stocks by analyzing statistics generated by market activity. Technicals refer to past prices and volume, which are viewed as a price chart in an effort to foresee potential future activity.

Technical analysts believe that the historical prices of the stock and the market are potential indicators of future performance. The most important part of the technical puzzle is the price chart, which can be viewed in more than a hundred ways with Extreme Charts. Eight different chart types are available for use and can be seen in five preset time periods – or customized for individual use.

The other important part of technical analysis is the use of indicators to help the analysis process. Moving averages and Bollinger Bands may be customized (by time period, color, etc.) by the user and placed on top of the price chart for quick examination. Indicators can be placed on the chart, too, giving the user the ability to look at important information provided by CashFlow Accumulation, ADX, Stochastic, RSI, MACD and Money Flow.

Extreme Charts comes preloaded with five templates that incorporate most of the technicals that traders like to see. But the program permits the user to change the templates in whatever way they wish – from dramatic alterations to tiny tweaks – that best fit their trading.

Extreme Charts allows the user to go back in the past as far as they desire in order to look at technicals. Want to see what volume was on your stock from April 2007? Want to see how your stock has reacted during a Bollinger Band squeeze? Want to see what happens to your stock when the 10-day moving average crosses the 40-day moving average? It's all possible with Extreme Charts.
